Victorian Silver Buckle & Acorn Bangle

This bracelet has the trifecta of good Victorian jewelry - beautiful symbolism, hand engraving and hallmarks. First, let's start with the symbolism and engraving. Featured prominently in this bangle is the belt buckle motif, a symbol of everlasting love given the strength and overlapping nature of a belt. Adorning the front of the piece are leaves, curves flowers, and, most importantly, acorns. Acorns, particularly in the Victorian era, were symbols of new growth and life, as well as longevity. When taken together, it's likely this piece was a wedding bracelet and it would serve perfectly in the same role for the modern bride. Secondly, hallmarks. This piece has a series of hallmarks which help define its history - it is stamped for Birmingham, England in the late 1800's, of the maker "S. Bros."

This piece hinges open and closes shut with a safety clasp.

HISTORY: Hallmarks for Birmingham, England, with what appears to be the date mark for 1889. The maker's mark of "S. Bros" is likely for the Sydenham Brothers, a late Victorian era jewelry maker.

MATERIALS: Sterling silver, stamped (lion).

SIZE: This bracelet would fit a small to medium wrist best. It measures 2 1/4" by 1 7/8" internal diameter, by 7 1/8" circumference. It's 1/2" wide. Weighs 17 g but feels lightweight on the wrist.

CONDITION: Beautiful antique condition. Clasp and hinge work perfectly. There is some patina to this piece, which we've left partially intact as it speaks to its history.
