Cremation Jewelry for Your Grief Journey
I remember vividly when I lost my sister Donna, that I wanted so very much to be able to hold her ashes with me each day. She was my best friend in life and I wanted something to hold onto each day when she was gone. The funeral home offered exactly one jewelry piece to hold ashes - and it was hideous. My sisters and I ended up each getting one, but only because we had no other choice at the time. That jewelry piece has just sat untouched in my jewelry box for years.
When it came time in my own grief journey to make mourning jewelry, I created the beautiful enamel ring with the Smiths' lyric There is a Light That Never Goes Out. That was really impactful for me. Yet, I never felt ready to use ashes in my own jewelry line, it felt too personal, too raw.
Until now.
I had to reach a certain point of healing to be able to handle ashes - perhaps you can relate? The grief journey is so unpredictable and on its own timeline. '
I now have the first cremation ring in my jewelry line out in the world, and I am so deeply proud of it. It is just about the same size as our enamel mourning ring, so it's stackable and an everyday piece.
The gorgeous enamel is ombré, a mix of two enamel colors to produce a watercolor effect. This was important to me - I didn't want a piece that felt somber or stifled. I wanted something that, much like how we did my sister's funeral (we played her favorite songs...we gave out mixed tape CDs...we showed videos of her laugh and her smile), felt celebratory and beautiful.
Our master enamel artist Joan mixes small bits of ash and bone from your loved one into the enamel itself, and it's all fired together in the kiln. The design allows for one small initial, which can be done in script or block font. Any ashes can be used, pet or human.
This piece is an instant heirloom and something you'll find yourself wearing everyday.
We would be honored to work with you on a cremation ring. We believe art can heal and help so much on the journey of loss and love.
