Gold Filled Pencil Chatelaine Necklace
During Victorian times, women wore various useful - and beautiful - implements on their belt. It allowed them to attend to daily tasks while also maintaining the style of the times. Called chatelaines, these items were attached by chains to the waist.
Pencils were common chatelaines, as they were an indispensable household tool. This gorgeous gold filled pencil has so much beauty in its simplicity, and miraculously, it works and still has lead within it!
HISTORY: Early 1900's pencil and newer vintage (1960's) new-old-stock chain.
MATERIALS: Gold filled metal
SIZE: The pencil measures 2 11/16" in length and it's on a 16" chain.
CONDITION: Beautiful condition. There is slight wear to the gold fill on the pencil, mainly on the ridges that are used for twisting the lead open and closed, but it's barely noticeable. There is also one small dent in the pencil, as seen in the one photo. The chain is new-old-stock, so never used.
This would make a wonderful gift for a writer or book lover. *Please note antique box is for display purposes only.
