Hector Aguilar Mexican Silver Necklace

$1,100
Rare, rare, rare. A hallmarked Mexican silver necklace with the mark for the famous artist Hector Aguilar. Making pieces under the Taller Borda umbrella, Hector's pieces were known for their pre-Columbian motifs and geometric forms, as well as their impeccable craftsmanship. This necklace has a design that feels like ocean waves, and each individual "wave" is connected to the other in a way that allows it to hinge/move, resulting in a flowing and articulating design. The clasp is seamless - once you affix it, it appears as if there is one continuous design all throughout.

There is no way to describe the beauty and craftsmanship of this necklace in words, it's just perfection. See a video of it on my You Tube channel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CTXtQk6v_Hw

HISTORY: Hallmarked "Taller Borda", the maker's mark for Hector Aguilar, Taxco and Mexico, as well as an eagle mark with the number 9 in it. The mark is for pieces constructed before 1955. I estimate this piece to be 1950's.

MATERIALS: Silver. Hector was known for crafting pieces of 940 silver, slightly less silver than sterling's .925

SIZE: This is a shorter piece, more of a bib or choker necklace, measuring 15 1/4". It feels wonderful on the neck and drapes the collarbone perfectly. It is hefty in weight, measuring 70.35 g. It measures 7/16" in width.

CONDITION: Perfect vintage condition. Slight surface scratches, to be expected with age.

A piece that belongs in the Mexican silver jewelry collector's box.
