Vintage 1940's Siam Niello Panel Necklace
An absolutely stunning and more rare Siam necklace, which has incredible octagonal shaped panels featuring multiple figures from the Thai legend Ramakien. The Ramakien (รามเกียรติ์), or "Glory of Rama", is the Thai adaptation of the Indian epic Ramayana. It is a major work of Thai literature and culture, influencing the country's art, dance, drama and religion.
Figures in this necklace include Mekkala the Goddess of Lightning and Ramasoon the God of Thunder, which are often paired together in Siam jewelry. There is also the dancing angel seen with her garland. Lastly, there is a war elephant depicted, a more rare character of the ones typically seen. The details on these panels are so lovely, as are the links between them and in the chain which are also niello.
A great statement piece!
