Rare Chinese Export Enamel Bird Brooch Pendant

$210

A stunning example of vintage Chinese export jewelry. As China began to be explored more by the Western world in the 1930's and 40's, intricate jewelry of this kind was made for the tourist.

The combination of gilt silver (gold over silver), filigree and colorful enamel give these a vibrant flair and are a testament to superb craftsmanship. Explor jewelry of this kind is rare and hard to find! This is an exceptional example of enameled filigree jewelry.

HISTORY:
The marking of "silver" on the bail, along with the style of this piece and the type of pin clasp, dates it to the 1930's.

SIZE:
A sizable piece, measuring 2 1/8 tail to beak, and 1 1/8 in height when the bail is included. It rests on a newer vintage 16" gold filled chain.

CONDITION:
Overall good condition. The vermeil is still intact (no silver showing through), the filigree is in great condition, and the enamel is intact aside from one small area near the end of the tail (and it looks intentional). The turning mechanism on the pin clasp is loose, so this piece is best worn as a pendant, and the price reflects this condition.

MATERIALS:
Gold over silver, and enamel

A beautiful piece of Chinese history, and perfect for the bird lover!
