Art Nouveau Silver Floral Ivy Locket

Rare, exquisitely hand engraved, and quite large, this silver locket is a perfect representation of Art Nouveau jewelry. The Nouveau period was one highly influenced by nature and natural elements, and this locket captures this perfectly with its ivy and flowers. The detail to the engravings is spectacular, with forget-me-not flowers and a gorgeous swirl design. The ivy is done through the repousse technique, giving it a dimensional and life-like feel.

Forget-me-not flowers are a long-held symbol of love and remembrance, and ivy represents fidelity, marriage, friendship and love. With this symbolism, this piece would make an amazing gift for the bride or partner, particularly on an anniversary, and could also be worn as a remembrance piece.

HISTORY: late 1800's Art Nouveau

MATERIALS: coin silver, new sterling silver chain

SIZE: Large. This locket measures 2 1/16" in total length as it hangs from the chain, by 1 5/16" in width east to west. The chain, which is new, measures 18".

CONDITION: Overall excellent condition except for some scratch marks on the inside panels of the locket where it appears to have been tested for silver content in the past. The locket opens and closes as it should, although it's a soft close and not a snap.
