Antique Victorian Pocket Watch Chain with Locket
A rarity - a gorgeous condition antique pocket watch chain with its original locket still attached. Inside the locket is a picture of a young man. These chains were a common accessory in the 1800's, with many man (and some women) wearing them on their vests and other clothing. Other than a pocket watch, of course, often useful or sentimental accessories would be attached.
This could be worn as is and would make for a wonderful piece for a community theater.
HISTORY: 1800's early Victorian. There are no hallmarks on this piece but the clip does say "PAT.PEND'G"
CONDITION: Great condition, with only minor wear to the gold fill. The locket still opens easily and closes with a snap. There is a hoop on the back where it's likely an additional chain was attached, but that is now missing.
SIZE: This piece measures a little over 4 1/4" end to end. The locket measures 7/8" in diameter.
MATERIALS: Gold fill metal and an old black and white photo. It appears to be a tin type but I am not going to remove the covering to check.
Such a great piece of history.
