Art Deco Purple Glass Bracelet
A gorgeous Art Deco bracelet that is a hybrid design. The bracelet part of this piece has a watch chain style set of links, and was made before the first World War (see history note). The centerpiece, with its bright and vibrant purple stone, has an Art Deco flair that we estimate to be 1920's. At some point the two were combined.
It's a striking piece which nearly glows when the light passes through the stone. This would make a wonderful bracelet for the Art Deco bride.
HISTORY:
At some point in this bracelet's history, a gold filled watch chain was paired with a gold filled Victorian bracelet piece. The chain is stamped for the Hadley-Kalbe Corp. out of Providence, Rhode Island, a company that specialized in watch chains before the First World War. The front piece with glass stone has no maker's marks, but we estimate it to be Art Deco based on its characteristics.
MATERIALS:
Gold fill bracelet chain and front piece; purple glass
SIZE:
This bracelet has an expansion option, as can be seen in the photo. When not expanded, it measures approximately 2 1/4" by 1 3/4" internal diameters; when expanded, it measures 2 3/8" by 1 7/8".
CONDITION:
Overall good condition. The glass stone has only minor abrasions, and the gold fill is mostly intact. The hinged clasp works fine but does take some getting used to, as it can expand to fit a bigger wrist.
This is an interesting piece both for its color and design, as well as for the mixed history of it!
