A Mourning Locket

A few weeks after she lost her son Kevin suddenly, Jodi reached out to me to discuss a locket to hold her son's hair. Like all of my custom work, she and I had many conversations so I could learn more about her story. The path that resonated most was to do hand engraving on a vintage locket.

Hand Engraved Locket

Hand engraving is such a time honored art form, which can reach a level of detail impossible to achieve with laser engraving.

Kevin's life touched the lives of many others, as his organs were donated at the time of his death. I suggested the idea of an exploding star on the front of the locket, to symbolize this sending forth of light and love into others' lives.

For the back of the locket, I suggested Kevin's fingerprint, so Jodi can touch and feel it whenever she is thinking of him.  Jodi also wished to have Kevin's initials engraved on the same side as the fingerprint.

Inside I placed a lock of Kevin's hair and his picture.

This locket was one of the most sentimental I have ever created and I'm very thankful to Jodi for sharing her story and the love for her son with me.
