Victorian Cut Steel Shoe Buckle Necklace
An absolutely stunning repurposing of an antique, a mid 1800's shoe buckle made of cut steel. Cut steel jewelry and adornment was made by affixing faceted rounds of steel to a base metal, in this case copper. When done in this way, the steel glittered much like a precious stone, offering a beautiful alternative to more expensive jewelry like diamonds. This cut steel shoe buckle, which would have come in a pair and been used on the top of shoes, has been strung on an oxidized sterling, silver chain. It is a modern day interpretation of this antique, giving it new life.
HISTORY: Mid 1800's Victorian buckle on a new chain. The buckle is stamped "Made in France" and "M.G."
MATERIALS: Steel, copper, sterling silver chain
SIZE: The buckle measures 1 1/8" in diameter, and it's on an 18" chain.
CONDITION: The chain is new, and the buckle is in impeccable condition for its age.
A stunning piece that can be dressed up or down.
