These chains were a common accessory in the 1800's, with many man (and some women) wearing them on their vests and other clothing.  Other than a pocket watch, of course, often useful or sentimental accessories would be attached.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis could be worn as is and would make for a wonderful piece for a community theater.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eHISTORY: 1800's early Victorian.  There are no hallmarks on this piece but the clip does say \"PAT.PEND'G\"\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eCONDITION: Great condition, with only minor wear to the gold fill.  The locket still opens easily and closes with a snap. There  is a hoop on the back where it's likely an additional chain was attached, but that is now missing.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eSIZE: This piece measures a little over 4 1\/4\" end to end.
